Hello, my name is Matthew. I am a certified Math and Physics (and composite Science) grade 8-12 teacher. I have taught physics at the high school level and recently obtained my Master's degree from the University of Texas at Dallas where I served as a teaching assistant for intro level Physics labs. In my daily life, I am constantly exposed to the wonders of science and enjoy nothing more than being able to share that with my students.
As for my methods, I like to break problems down to their individual components. The fundamental concept in any Physics problem is how to go from where I am and what I have to what I want. When I'm with a student, I model the logic they will need to solve a problem and walk them through it by asking them the very same questions I ask myself.
"What do I have? What information does the problem give me? Can I assume anything else about the problem?"
"What do I want? What does the problem want me to find?"
"What equations or concepts relate what I know to what I want? Do I need to use more than one concept to connect what I have to what I want?"
And so on. My goal isn't to help a student solve one problem, my goal is to help a student develop the techniques he or she will need to solve all future problems.
Thank you for reading this far. I hope we can work together to make you or your child succeed.
