Hey there!

My name is Melanie and I adore helping people learn.

I worked as a news writer and copy editor for three years, giving me the ins and outs of English writing and perfecting said writing. I'm also a folk singer/songwriter and I'm always looking for the chance to work music into my teaching.

Coming from a Montessori school background, I understand that every person has a different learning style and I'm all about meeting those needs in whatever way I can. I approve of hands-on and media learning just as much as I do sticking to the books. Everyone has their own method of learning success.

I've tutored ESL for about a year, and I'm an intermediate Spanish speaker working toward my fluency certificate.

I copy edited dozens of articles every week on deadline at the Richland Chronicle, and I also did some editing work with the Eastfield Et Cetera. I also do freelance copy editing, making any written work look tighter and sharper with a fee by the page. For all this one has to understand how English grammar works.

Reading

I have experience assisting students with English reading, on top of being an experienced editor and avid reader myself.

ESL/ESOL

I worked with a Japanese-speaking student struggling with a fast-paced history class in 2007. In 2009 I assisted two Spanish-speaking students with their English homework. Also, in 2012 I had extensive lessons with a Saudi Arabian adult looking to improve his English speaking fluidity.
