Experienced and patient math tutor for all ages

Hello everyone,

My name is Garrett and I've had the pleasure of tutoring for three years.

I recently graduated from Austin Community College with my associates of science in general engineering. I spent most of my time outside of classroom participating in several volunteer organizations through Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, such as Special Olympics, Breast Cancer Resource Center, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Texas Lions Camp. I tutored a wide variety of subjects at Austin Community College and earned a Level 1 CRLA tutoring certification. My main focuses are in algebra and calculus but I also tutor everything from basic math to Calculus 3 and statistics.

My work experience has taken me on different avenues. I was a service manager at HEB for a year. I volunteered for Special Olympics for seven years until I moved to Dallas to complete my Electrical Engineering degree at University of Texas at Dallas. I have volunteered for Texas Lions Camp for the past two years, where I worked with kids, ages ranging from 5 to 16, with Type 1 Diabetes.

I have received several complements while tutoring which has made me consider being a teacher. I like to break down concepts into their most simplest form and present the material, adding small things along the way.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is a world of its own. Although trig comes from the triangle, many people associate the subject to the many different identities of sine, cosine, and tangent. Study Skills

As both a tutor for Austin Community College and a Supplemental Instructor, I have learned several different ways of studying effectively. From note taking to effective study habits, I have learned proper studying habits and use these studying habits myself while I finish my Electrical Engineering degree at the University of Texas at Dallas.

C++

I have taken two different programming courses, one in C++ and one in C. Both use logic to form the language. Because many versions of C programming are the same, the grammar for many of your basic loops, such as while and for loops, are the same in both C and C++. Switch cases are also very similar, if not exactly the same when comparing C and C++. C++ does use different ways of getting information and sending information to the screen but it is the same logic at in C.

Just the help I needed — Garrett is a great tutor. He spends less time lecturing you and more time showing examples and helping you visualize the situation. In the first session I was able to work through two of my c++ labs and reach a greater understanding of programming.
