I am interested in helping those who wish to improve their skills quickly and efficiently. I have over ten years of experience teaching at the college level and three years of experience teaching at the secondary level. I have taught subjects such as Composition, Literary Analysis, Ethics, and Critical Thinking, and have also served as a writing consultant at the University of Texas at Dallas.
I believe I have the ability to quickly pinpoint the areas in which a student may be struggling, and I usually employ a programmatic approach to learning, whereby a student will master progressively harder tasks in order to meet a particular objective. Moreover, I would say that my approach to teaching writing is based on solid principles of style.
I hold a B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin, an M.A. from the University of Chicago, and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Dallas, where I wrote my dissertation on selected works of Poe and Melville. I have also published essays for an anthology of literature and an article on using film to teach composition.
