Dear parents,
As a Social Worker, Educator and Mom of four boys I truly understand the struggles of motivating our children to succeed. I am confident that together we can build your child's self-esteem and encourage him/her to learn and succeed. I have over fifteen years experience working with children, I have a B.A. in Education with a minor in Fine Arts. In addition, I have a Masters in Social Work. I am also a certified Art/Play Therapist. I began my career teaching for five years both Elementary and High school.I taught Art, Hebrew Language,Science, and Bible studies. I also tutored one on one in the Resource Room all subjects for children who were struggling to keep up in the classroom. My experiences as a teacher prompted me to pursue a degree in counseling, since I saw how the children with social and emotional issues were falling behind and I wanted to help them. After I graduated Monmouth University and received a Masters in Social Work with a certification in School Counseling I began working as a school social worker in an elementary school in Deal N.J. A few years later, I received my Clinical License and as an LCSW was now able to open my own private practice. I was very successful and ran many support groups for children with social, emotional and behavioral issues. My specialty has been Social Skills Training and after a decade of research and experience I developed a curriculum that teaches children struggling socially how to initiate and maintain friendships. My program is called the "Friendship Hour" and I have implemented my program in several schools in N.J. I have treated hundreds of children with a wide range of social difficulties from Aspergers to Social Anxiety, as well as bullying and teasing. In addition, I am a freelance Fine Artist and I am proficient in teaching many mediums of Art. To list a few, they are: Oil, Pastels, Acrylic, Glass Mosaics, Stained Glass, Silk Painting and Illustration.
My method in tutoring merges my three degrees together; Education, Counseling and Art! I am therefore extremely skilled at dealing with any emotional or behavioral issues that can be be an obstacle in learning. I employ a lot of creative and artistic methods which are highly motivational and keep the child wanting to learn more and more each session. I am clear and organized in my teaching. In addition, I can be a support for the parents and be a partner in advocating for the child in school speaking with teachers and principals. My goal as a tutor is to to custom tailor a learning program that fits your child's unique needs. I believe the key to learning and growth is to build a good rapport with the child and create an environment that is safe and enjoyable.
