Hi, thank you for your interest in finding a qualified tutor in accounting. Hopefully my summary will assist you in your decision and help you make a qualified decision. I understand how complicated the subject can seem and at times completely overwhelming!
I am a fully licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in state of Texas. This was a goal that I set for myself a long time ago that took many hard hours of work and dedication. The time, effort, and resources definitely paid off and I can proudly say that I passed all four parts, with well above average scores, on my first attempt. This is done by approximately 12-18% of all candidates.
I knew in college that I wanted to be a CPA and also that I enjoyed interacting and helping people. I prepared for the CPA early by learning financial accounting inside and out through tutoring and teaching. While I was an RA (Resident Advisor) in college, I also applied and was hired by the university to teach supplemental courses in accounting as a Supplemental Instructor. This meant that I sat in Financial Accounting I alongside the students I was teaching in the supplemental courses. The courses covered current topics from class and it was a time for students to receive free additional support. The professor did not know who was registered for the course, but later told me it was apparent based on increases in test scores and confidence in the classroom. Seeing students succeed at a subject that they had sometimes described as "impossible" was by far the best reward I could have received. I also tutored students one-on-one through the same department that hired me as a SI.
I was a member, and chair, of Beta Alpha Psi, the international honors business fraternity for accounting, finance, and information systems. While a member I was able to serve as the Intermediate Accounting Entrance Exam Chair. The university had an entrance exam that was meant to "weed out" students that were not seen as ready for Intermediate Financial Accounting I. BAP prepared students through an intense 8 hour course on Saturdays that I taught along with another student. It was very rewarding to see students who had previously failed the exam pass and go on to be great accounting students.
In summary, I would love to help you better understand your current accounting coursework through strategic tutoring. That means that I will work with you to become stronger on the areas that you would like to improve and also to solidify the areas you already understand. By focusing on both areas, I have seen great results from students. I can also assist with CPA Exam Prep if you would like to discuss overall strategies, tips, or just go over various topics.
Please contact me with any questions or to schedule a time for tutoring. I'm flexible and will answer all e-mails promptly.
