I bring a wealth of education and experience to the students I tutor. I am currently a doctoral student in theology, ethics, and culture at Duke University. I also hold a B.A. in English Literature from Maryville College where I was awarded prizes for outstanding research and overall academic achievement, and an M.Div. and M.A. in Religion from Wake Forest University. I scored in the 92nd percentile on the GRE writing section, and in the 90th percentile on the verbal section.
I have two years of college teaching experience and a year of tutoring experience in writing. As a tutor I aim to teach students to master the subjects they study by providing the technical knowledge I possess and by encouraging them to work hard. Excellence is a habit, and any student who commits herself to practice can excel. In my experience, lack of practice is the student's greatest enemy. Many students struggle to create the healthy habits that provide a foundation for success, but I have a particular strength for creating strategic plans to improve good habits that reinforce the skills we practice in tutoring sessions.
A little about my personal life. My wife is a graduate of the Southern Methodist University where she received a Masters of Sacred Music, and she currently works as a choir director and organist for a Methodist Church in the Durham area. We have one son, Samuel, and dog named Bo.
