I have experience teaching in a Bible College (Cross Cultural Communication) and a Seminary in the US as well as a seminary in Taiwan (teaching Hebrew using Chinese in Taiwan and using English in the US). I am currently teaching in an ESL school in Dallas.
I lived in Taiwan for more than 29 years and speak Chinese fluently. While there I worked in many different areas that gave me experiences that make me a much more effective teacher. Besides teaching in a classroom, I also taught English to both High School and College age groups, sometimes in small groups of 5-8 students, sometimes one on one. The study of another spoken language (Chinese) helped me better understand the process of learning a language and that gives me an additional edge in teaching English to non-native speakers. My fluency in Chinese (Mandarin) means that I can explain concepts and vocabulary to Chinese speakers in their own language.
I was a director of our organization in Taiwan for 16 years, supervising up to 65 foreigners and an office staff of 6 Chinese. I have served on several boards including the chairman of the board of a prominent hospital in Taiwan. I also founded a program for finding and developing leaders focusing on recent university graduates and giving them two years of individual training and coaching. I worked with an author of a personality inventory test to translate, revise, and validate it for Chinese speakers. I have also led seminars to help organizations develop a common vision and strategic plan and on team-building. I developed a good reputation as a public speaker, speaking to groups all over Taiwan as well as China, Japan, and Australia.
I enjoy making others succeed and meet the goals that they have set. I'll work with you using materials of your choice, or I can help you find other materials to help you in your personal development.
