My background ranges across multiple disciplines. I have a Master's degree in humanities with areas of specialization in both literary studies and aesthetics, and am currently working on a second Master's in Applied Cognition and Neuroscience. It is my belief that broad spectrum knowledge improves self awareness, adaptability, and personal value by integrating multiple modes of thought. No one field, individual, or idea exists in a vacuum.
I am an emerging Dallas poet and academic with my first collection of work recently published in One Song, Three Composers as contribution to a New Zealand artist's work on synaesthetic experience. My poetry and art work has been shown and read throughout the Dallas metroplex in galleries, dance performances, and academic conferences, and has been translated and read for the Max Planck Institute for Cognitive Anthropology and the Goethe Institute in Germany.
I am a professor of English at Eastfield college and a writing consultant for the University of Texas at Dallas. Course material I develop and teach covers philosophical discourse, literary and visual analyses, composition and rhetoric, and grammar/mechanics/syntax. In addition to higher education experience, I taught grades K - 9 in summer educational camps with Plano SAT Prep, working with students of varying skill levels in reading comprehension, creative writing, and composition. I also work with ESL students of all age ranges and levels of language acquisition, development, and usage.
