I have prepared many students in middle school to take the ISEE high school entrance test. I am also able to work with students in reading, writing and English. I am experienced in MLA and APA style writing. I am very patient and I understand students that do not understand easily. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

This course is the foundation for high school mathematics courses. It is the bridge from the concrete to the abstract study of mathematics. Topics include simplifying expressions, evaluating and solving equations and inequalities, and graphing linear and quadratic functions and relations. Real world applications are presented within the course content and a function's approach is emphasized.

Elementary (K-6th)

A general education in K-6 includes all major subjects - math, English, reading, science, social studies, and spelling. I am a certified elementary teacher for grades 1-8 with 20 years of experience in the classroom. I will take your child from the level he/she is on and lead them on an exciting journey to the next level.

Elementary Math

This course is designed to develop the skills and understanding to perform the fundamental operations on whole numbers, fractions and decimals. Topics include the base ten system, rounding, prime numbers, factors, least common multiples and conversions between decimals and fractions.

ISEE

I have tutored students and conducted classes for the ISEE exams at several Catholic elementary schools. My students have been very successful in attaining acceptance to the high school of their choice. I am currently working with students at all levels to prepare them for the January exam dates.

Prealgebra

Prealgebra instruction includes a review of the basics of mathematics and a thorough introduction to integers, basic equations and word problems.

Study Skills

Study skills includes learning how to organize and schedule projects, test and daily assignments. I will teach your student how to properly use a planner to ensure that all assignments are completed on time or before. Study techniques would also be learned depending upon your student's learning style. Students that are auditory learners need to have things verbally explained and or read to them. They also need to hear themselves read out loud and explain things to others to help them figure out various concepts. Students that are kinesthetic need to have hands on experiences to best learn concepts. I would work with manipulatives, diagrams and hands-on materials that your student would be able to touch and feel to learn. For the visual learner, I would work with various visual illustrations, flash cards and other activities that would aid the student in their studies.
Study skills would also include doing research, planning out projects with definite steps towards completion, and learning how to outline and take notes in an organized manner that will be easy to understand and study. Organization is also a factor in study skills. I would teach your child how to properly organized school work, binders, folders, etc. to meet their needs to make sure that they know where to find all materials when needed.

Organization, Communication, Positive Attitude These are the three most important parts of a good school year. If you student is organized, success is encouraged. Try to have an organized backpack for school and a designated study area at home. IF the backpack goes to the study area and a routine is established, children will be more apt to develop stronger study habits. Communication... read more

Fractions can be fun but also confusing for some students. A good way to begin is to make fraction pieces using paper plates. Make halves by folding the paper plate into two equal parts. Fold the next paper plate in half and in half again to make fourths. To make eighths, take another paper plate and makes fourths and then cut the fourths in half. This method is an easy way to introduce halves,... read more
