First off, thanks for reading my profile. I appreciate it!
Second, let me tell you a little bit about myself. The picture is from a trip to see my brother in Wasilla Alaska. Right now, I live in Arlington Texas and I am a part-time math PhD student at UTA - The University of Texas at Arlington. I have a master's degree in math, and 2 bachelor's degrees; one in math, and the other in history.
Third, I have taught math for over 5 years at the university level. Additionally, I have tutored almost every undergraduate mathematics subject. This would include all of the following; algebra, calculus, differential equations, statistics, probability, logic, discrete math, math for teachers, biostatistics, complex analysis, topology, and real analysis. I also taught English in Vietnam.
Finally, I have extensive experience with online tutoring. Over the years, I have used a wide variety of tools to facilitate online learning. These tools include; Skype, Yahoo Messenger, Paltalk, VOIP, Google Voice, Google Docs, and other tools.
Please let me know if you think I can help you with your teaching, tutoring, coaching and mentoring needs.
For Algebra 2, my goal is to facilitate your mastery of the following topics; the real number system, simple expressions, equations, inequalities, functions, graphs, systems of equations, systems of inequalities, matrix algebra, radical functions, complex numbers, quadratic functions, polynomials, factoring, exponential functions, logarithmic functions, rational functions, and conic sections. I will help you internalize the fundamental concepts, remember the necessary formulas, and solve a wide variety of problems.
I have worked as a biostatistician at the University of Washington Medical School and Baylor University Medical School. Additionally, I am an author on research papers in this field. One of the projects, I worked on was for Bayer Aspirin company. They developed a drug called Cerivastatin, which was designed to reduce cholesterol levels in the bloodstream, and also actually reduce plague buildup in the arteries. We studied the claim that it reduced plaque buildup in the arteries by doing a longitudinal study of patients who were scheduled for Endarterectomy surgery. The idea, was to demonstrate that there was a statistically significant reduction of in-vivo plaque volume among the patients taking Cerivastatin for 6 months before their surgery. The drug was surprisingly effective. But, an observational study, conducted at another institution, revealed that there was statistically significant increase in the rate of kidney failure among Cerivastatin patients; the drug was voluntarily pulled before the FDA got involved! Such is the life of a working biostatistician. I would be happy to tutor you in biostatistics.
I actually use and study differential equations on a daily basis in my on going course work at the University of Texas at Arlington. I am very familiar with, and actually use, the various software packages for computing direction fields, and phase planes of systems of differential equations. My current favorite is Sage (a free online math tool,) but I also want to introduce Wolfram Alpha to you. It is easier to use, and might be all you need. I have studied differential equations from Coddington and Levinson's book Theory of Ordinary Differential Equations. I have tutored Differential Equations at the University of North Texas as a Differential Equations expert in their math lab. And I have worked at the University of Washington Medical school and implemented 'the snake' algorithm which uses a differential equation with a damping term to find 'edges' in MRI images.
Increased test scores by 30%. — As a parent, I would higly recommend Llew. He helped my 10th grade son raise his Algebra II (honors class) test scores by 30%. Llew was able to evaluate my son's learning style and personality, then create a tutoring "plan of action" that best fit his needs. My son had lost self-confidence in his abilities and was struggling with only a few weeks left in the semester. Llew was not only able to hel ...
