Accounting
I took Accounting as a senior in college, and then after graduating with a Bachelor's in math, I joined the USAF where I worked in their Accounting Dept. for 4 years. Several years after an honorable discharge, I worked as a bookkeeper in a small typing firm for about 7 months. A few years later, I worked for Arthur Andersen & Co. in their Word Processing department, where we regularly input information for financial statements. I spent 7 years there, until 1989.
For me, accounting led to using word processing software, but not accounting software, except for tax software for filing taxes. I've operated my own editing business for over ten years, filing my own taxes, etc.
Bible Studies
If you have written or compiled sermons, Bible studies, doctrinal studies, papers on Biblical characters, testimonies or memoirs based on particular Bible passages, I have spent over 10 years proofreading many such Bible studies, and can ensure that your writing is accurate, your Scriptures are precise, and your applications are logical.
I can present my findings on a particular manuscript either in person or via email, however the manuscript is presented to me: if in electronic format, or handwritten and needing electronic formatting as well as proofreading.
English
English is the sum total of grammar, vocabulary, proofreading, and writing--other subjects that I'm certified in. Thus when you break down English into its parts, that's where I'd be proficient in working with other writers of those parts.
Grammar
My desire to help with grammar is to show that I am certified to proofread or copyedit as my way of teaching (tutoring) through your dissertation, term paper, case study or manuscript, what you need to know in terms of grammar as part of the overall experience.
Microsoft Excel
I like using MS Excel in my business, by creating and using invoices with text boxes, formulas to calculate various rates times numbers of hours, add to subtotals, calculate tax if applicable, etc. I also use it whenever I want to do my year-end taxes including adding up all my deductions, multiplying totals by mileage factors, etc. If I have a mortgage (or any other debt), I can calculate how long it will take me to pay it off if I pay over the minimum each month. I have always loved working with Excel, and I'd be glad to show you how to use it as well, via email or in person.
Microsoft Word
Microsoft Word is what I use in business to edit other people's work and teach them how to write better, using their own level of grammar, punctuation, word usage, verb-noun agreement, etc., to start from. All my clients submit files via email, and I return results via email. It's also a great writing tool, and can even be used to index a book!
Proofreading
My version of proofreading is not about ensuring that what you wrote matches wherever it came from. What I call "proofreading" includes ensuring that your writing is logical, that your vocabulary (word usage) is correct, that your grammar is appropriate, and that every other aspect of a particular manuscript or dissertation is ready for either publication or submission to a committee of professors, respectively. So it would include basic proofreading, line-by-line copyediting, suggested rewrites and sometimes reorganization or a request for transitions, clarifications, or further updates.
Religion
My particular work with "religion" falls under Biblical theology, having continuously studied and read in the Old and New Testaments for over 50 years. I've edited Biblical studies by pastors in London as well as Texas, and also worked with authors of Christian fiction and nonfiction works. I'm currently working with a doctoral candidate at a theological seminary on her dissertation about pastoral depression. I would particularly be interested in helping students with written works in theological studies to check accuracy in Scriptural quotations and applications, as well as any other issues that precede publication.
Tax Preparation
I have been preparing my own 1040s with various Schedules, including A, C, D and others for many years, ever since I started working for a living from the 60's. I also help a friend do her taxes each year. I use MicroSoft Excel very extensively when I figure out my taxes. I also rely on H&R Block tax software so I won't leave out any details (e.g., taking into consideration all my Sch. C deductions, distribution income, charitable giving, business mileage, medical mileage, etc.). I have a BA in Math, so I enjoy tax time like few others!
Vocabulary
My desire to help with vocabulary is to show that I am certified to proofread or copyedit as my way of teaching (tutoring) through your dissertation, term paper, case study or manuscript, what you need to know in terms of vocabulary as part of the overall experience. It's worth noting that vocabulary may be a more difficult area for a writer that didn't learn English as a first language, for in translating another language into English in thought or word, one can often lose meaning or change idioms to make the English more difficult to understand without the help of an editor.
Writing
My desire to help with writing is very basic. I am able to proofread or copyedit as my way of teaching (tutoring) through your dissertation, term paper, case study or manuscript, what you need to know in terms of writing as part of the overall experience.
