Welcome. I am Rashida. I love learning and sharing my knowledge. I have several years of advanced education and professional work experience. I am currently the founder and managing director of a small consulting company based in Virginia. One of the primary focuses of the company is the academic, social, and financial success of children and their families. I strongly believe that children are our future and that education is one of the biggest keys to success.
As a former mental health counselor working with children and adults in the schools and the community, I realize that everyone needs something different to be successful and accomplish his or her goals. As a tutor, I use a combination of traditional methods and individualized learning techniques. Over the years, I have helped scores of students and professionals to develop high-level reading, writing, English, and presentation skills. The most important skills I have as a tutor are the ability to explain things in a clear way, the ability to listen, patience, and the ability to learn from my students.
I have tutored students of all ages in a variety of subjects. Primarily, I tutor middle and high school students in English related subjects. I also provide assistance to college students and working professionals in the areas of career development and employment. My areas of expertise include: reading, writing, English, editing and proofreading, interview skills, career development, business analysis, and law.
If you are applying to college, graduate or professional school, I can provide insights on the application process and writing a compelling personal statement. If you are preparing for an important interview, my tips and guidance will give you a “leg up” over the competition. If you are struggling with an academic subject, I can help you improve your grades and your school experience.
During the first tutoring session, I evaluate a student for problem areas and learning style. Next I gather information about the student's goals for tutoring, and the parents if applicable. Lastly, I develop a plan to reach the identified goals. All tutoring sessions will focus on mastering current academic work. This may include any necessary remedial skill development, workbook practice, tutoring homework, and referrals to helpful services.
I have availability on most weekday afternoons and evenings, as well as some Saturdays and Sundays.
I currently hold a master's degree in counseling with a focus on placement in the community/agency arena. In the past seven years, I have worked with several children and families helping them to be successful at school and at home.
While working for non-profits in VA and DC, I have been assigned to children of various ages diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. These children often exhibit behavior problems at school, home and in the community. Many of my past clients have been on medication and have needed assistance dealing with those side effects and communicating their concerns to their parents, the doctor and/or the psychiatrist. In the past, I have provided in-school and in-home support to children and families, helping children learn to focus and control behaviors and supporting parents as they learn to provide needed structure and discipline.
As a tutor, I can help your child to focus on homework using behavior modification techniques and reward systems that can be tied to school and community behaviors and success. Examples of these techniques include breathing skills, attention management, time management, goal-setting, and small rewards for milestones and goals achieved.
I am a 2011 law school graduate and an active member of the District of Columbia Bar. I successfully passed the Wisconsin bar exam on the first try with a combination of on-line MBE prep and self-study/review of the Wisconsin outlines obtained from BarBri.
In addition to personal success with the bar exam, I have several years of experience helping others prepare for standardized test as well as formal training in the development and creation of standardized test instruments.
I can assist with preparation for the state licensing exam required for any JD graduate to practice law in each state of the US. This exam involves two days of examination (three in Texas) with one day of multiple choice testing and one day of essay testing.
The multiple choice testing is a national exam created by the NBCE and is administered on the same day nation-wide. The essay testing is usually state specific and includes 6-12 essays (depending on your state) in various subject areas related to the laws of the state where the exam is being administered. The essay part of the exam may include the MPT, a closed-universe essay question.
The goal of the exam taker is to demonstrate minimum proficiency in the law. This is done with a passing grade on the each part of the test.
I currently hold a master's degree in counseling with a focus on placement in the community/agency arena. Since 2000, I have worked off and on assisting young professionals across the US with career development. My experience includes resume building, interview preparation and skill development, career transitions, and preparing individuals to enter the job market. My clients have worked in areas such as law enforcement, film and television, counseling, education, and banking/finance.
Career development is an involved process that requires time and energy. My work with clients included goal setting, career identification, skill development, action planning, and self-evaluation techniques.

Personally, I have pursued 10 years of post-high school education and have successfully gained entry to over one dozen colleges/universities.
College Counseling involves the process of academic and social preparation for college. Additionally, this form of counseling involves the identification and selection of a college or university. A student will get assistance with completing entrance applications for the identified institutions, completing financial aid and scholarship applications, completing FAFSA forms, managing multiple deadlines for financial and institutional application submission, preparing to live with a new person, conflict-resolution skills, drug and alcohol awareness, romantic relationships, and the "freshman 15."
I have several years of graduate-level education and experience with various forms of graduate-level writing. I am a published writer in academic and professional journals.
As a member of my law school's academic journal, writing and editing have been a significant part of my life for the past two years.
When writing and editing, I take care to ensure that the document can be read easily by most anyone, yet meets the required academic or professional standard. Additionally, I make sure to double check my work and use the appropriate writing and grammar guide.

When proofreading I take care to ensure that the document can be read easily by most anyone, yet meets the required academic or professional standard. When proofreading I make sure to review grammar rules and keep them at the forefront of my thoughts. I also make sure that I have easy access to a dictionary and writing manual. These steps ensure use of correct grammar, spelling, sentence structure, persuasion level, and voice (active or passive depending on the piece).
In the past seven years, I have worked with several adolescents academically, in school and at home, to focus and improve academic behaviors. I also have several years of experience helping others prepare for standardize tests, as well as formal training in the development and creation of standardize test instruments.
