When tutoring, I believe that what is paramount is that I quickly get to a place where my student trusts that I have his or her best interest in mind and we use our time wisely. After 20 years working in the corporate world, I moved into teaching elementary students. While working with Fortune 100 and 500 companies, I taught adults, built curriculum, managed groups, and managed projects. My most recent job was managing a Learning Management System which housed electronic courses. In 2009, I started teaching elementary students. I have been at a charter school for 4 years, and I absolutely love working with my students from Kinder-5th grades! I tutor 3rd and 4th graders as well. During my first year, I was recognized as one of my charter school organization's Top Performers, which was tied to data proving extreme movement with test results (beginning and end of year comparison).
My classroom is a highly organized, creative, and fun place to learn. I believe in students asking questions and being comfortable enough to say, "I just don't get it". I will teach the same thing as many ways as I need to so that those gaps are closed. After teaching countless adults and children, I know that everyone learns differently, and it's my job to quickly assess how that is, and adjust my teaching style.
I hope that you find that I am a good match for your child's learning needs. Have a great day! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
