Baseball
I have experience playing baseball competitively from elementary school through high school. During my time playing I had a chance to play all the outfield and infield positions. When I was in college I had experience managing and coaching in a recreational league. My knowledge of the game of baseball and my experience playing and coaching enables me to help students who are looking to develop their skills.
Basketball
I have experience playing basketball competitively at the middle school and high school level. I also played recreationally in college with my school's intramural sports program. While in high school I attended camps in the summer to sharpen my skills. After high school I helped to coach younger students in basketball camps. I have a firm grasp of the rules and the fundamentals and can provide helpful instruction for students seeking to develop their skills.
Bible Studies
I hold a B.A. from Cedarville University in Bible Education and a Th.M. in historical theology from Dallas Theological Seminary. My formal training covers both Bible studies and and theology.
Elementary (K-6th)
I have completed 30+ credits in education. Of those credits, 6 of them were focused specifically on educating children. I have a detailed knowledge of the stages of cognitive development relevant to K-6th graders and can modify assignments to fit specific needs. I understand different learning styles and can adapt my teaching to fit the needs of the student. I also have experience using a variety of teaching methods in a variety of educational settings. These settings include teaching K-6th graders at my church as well as in the classroom. My experiences and training have prepared me to help with students struggling in all areas of reading, writing, and math.
English
My years of study and paper writing in my undergraduate degree as well as my studies in Greek and Hebrew in my graduate degree have honed my understanding and usage of the English language. I have a firm grasp of grammar and syntax along with sentence and paragraph structure.
ESL/ESOL
My graduate studies in foreign languages and linguistics have made me particularly adept at articulating not only phonology in general, but also phonology unique to English. I have great familiarity with distinctives of the English language and grammar. Additionally, I have experience teaching ESL in a classroom setting to refugees and tutoring ESL in a one on one setting.
Grammar
My competencies in writing and proofreading as well as my studies in Greek and Hebrew have given me a comprehensive grasp of English grammar. I have experience sentence diagramming in English and even teaching English grammar to refugees in the Dallas area. I have a firm grasp of grammar and syntax along with sentence and paragraph structure. This knowledge and experience teaching grammar has made me well suited for tutoring in grammar.
Greek
I have completed 15 credits (5 classes) of Koine (Biblical) Greek during my studies at Dallas Theological Seminary.
Logic
I have completed 3 credits (1 class) in logic during my studies at Dallas Theological Seminary. I have an excellent grasp of the language and definitions, informal fallacies, categorical propositions and syllogisms, symbolic logic, and probability.
Proofreading
As a part of my internship during my graduate program I served as an editor and proofreader for a faculty member at my school. One of the works that I proofread and edited is now a published book. Along with proofreading other people's work, I have years of experience proofreading scores of my own papers for both my undergraduate and graduate degrees. I have the patience, experience, and knowledge of the English language to make me an effective proofreader.
Soccer
I played soccer competitively from elementary school through high school. After high school I played in various indoor soccer leagues and competed in my college's intramural program for both indoor and outdoor soccer. Additionally, I had experience coaching and managing while I was in college. I have a firm grasp of the rules and fundamentals and can help students looking to develop their skills.
Social Studies
I have 12 credits in my undergraduate degree that have prepared my to tutor in Social Studies. These credits are in American history, politics, humanities, and psychology. I have a firm grasp of how these subjects are interrelated and have produced the current cultural and social atmosphere. In my graduate degree I have studied more specifically the role of religion in American history. This further study has helped to solidify my knowledge of our nation's history and the role of the social sciences.
Speech
Over the course of my undergraduate and graduate studies I have completed 9 credits (3 classes) in the subjects of general speech and homiletic techniques. I have also spoken and taught publicly, which prepares me to tutor in this subject.
Study Skills
I graduated from Cedarville University with a 3.94 GPA and from Dallas Theological Seminary with a 3.96 GPA. My ability to use time wisely and efficiently has helped me to achieve high marks in my studies.
Writing
I have completed four years of graduate studies and eight total years of higher education. Over the last eight years I have written scores of papers that range from persuasive essays to in-depth research papers. I have consistently received high marks on all my writing. During my time student teaching I helped my students understand the structure of a paragraph, how to develop a thesis statement, and how to write body paragraphs that support the thesis in the introduction. My years of paper writing for classes and experience teaching how to write has enabled me to tutor effectively in writing.
