As a teacher and seasoned instructor, I have taught large groups of students for several years. Although I enjoy the classroom setting, I thrive in the tutoring environment. I love learning how students learn to help me understand how to individualize teaching for each student. Developing a trusting relationship is key when tutoring. My definition of tutoring is creating a question friendly environment, in which, I, as the tutor, ask the students questions to gain an understanding of the specific concepts that challenge the student, and the student asks me questions to gain a deeper understanding of the material. This environment allows the student to feel comfortable to make mistakes and a safe environment for me to help correct the misunderstanding.
I believe in challenging students to excel and reach their full potential. Tutoring is NOT simply giving the right answers (from teacher to student), nor is the primary focus for the student to simply arrive at the correct answer. Tutoring IS establishing a strong understanding of the material by helping the student truly understand the process of HOW to arrive at the correct answer and all the underlying concepts explored through thinking critically.
I have tutored as an undergraduate and graduate students as well as tutoring as a professional. I have had at least 4 years of experience in private/small group tutoring. As a mathematics instructor I have been had 4 years of experience in both high school and college classrooms.
I would love to help you understand math on a deeper level. Please let me know how I can help!
