The world is filled with choices. Why should you choose me to teach you writing, test prep, history or theatre. Here is why.
My dad was a professional writer, working for ABC radio and as an AP reporter part of his life. I started writing in the summer of my seventh year. Every type of story. Writing news events, sports events I saw on TV. He would correct and leave comments. Later, came columns and editorials. Proofreading and editing. Research, research, research.
As a result, in high school, I wrote and covered everything for the Hillcrest Hurricane, which won one of the top high school papers in 1984.
At Austin College I took a course just on research alone. A graduate paper I did on "What Services Colleges Provide For Their Students with Learning Challenges" was accepted for presentation at the AHEAD conference in 1999 at Texas A@M. I've also did my masters professional paper on "Barriers to Academic Learning".
Part of the reason I wrote that paper is because I was a certified special education teacher. Right after I got certified, my parents and family members got ill. I spent 6 years taking care of them full time. I could not teach then. Still, I know how to develop plans based on how your brain does learn. Everyone learns differently, even if they don't
qualify for special education at all. That is why some topics come easy for you, besides an interest, your brain is wired for it. Many students feel stupid, you are not, it is your brain that needs help.
SAT/ACT/GED/GRE test prep:
I have administered practice tests in high school. I passed the GRE without studying for it as I was taking grad finals the same week. Taking all these tests is a skill. I teach you what to look for as well as walk you through what you do the night before and the day of the test. You will know what to expect. Less stress means better results
History:
Got A's and B's in history. Read "Patroit History of US." Book Covers Jamestown to 911. Should be required reading for history teachers. I will make it practical, fun, relate to today.
Theatre:
Extensive ties to Dallas entertainment scene. Linda McAlister is my acting agent. I have my own company. Member of Dallas Screenwriters. Take acting classes in Dallas. Give you great advice and insight.
So, that is why you should choose me as your tutor. I will care about your learning. I will learn from you as well. Everyone in our life is there to teach us something.
The choice is yours!
Be well,
Scott
