I truly love teaching and seeing my students grasp and understand concepts they previously didn't "get." Learning can be fun and it's important to me to have my students enjoy the process. I give clear information, easily understood for each individual to learn quickly.
My credentials include my Bachelor of Science in English with a life-time teaching certificate from Texas A&M, Commerce, Texas. I taught ESL to adult students at the Literary Council of Austin. I organized and prepared the lesson plans for each class, choosing appropriate aids and tools to assist their learning process in speaking and writing English. I taught ESL to Japanese students at a language school in Honolulu,HI The students were aged 8 through to adult. I tutored adults persons in Dallas whose primary language is Spanish. They improved their speaking skills and vocabulary.
My method of instruction and communication is based on each unique student and his or her pace. I believe real listening is an essential part of this process. The next step is clarifying what I hear with the person I am helping. I believe in encouragement and positive input to reinforce the student's confidence in himself or herself. If students believe in themselves, they will achieve a higher level of success in their learning process and be able to apply what they learn in later life. That is the objective of all teaching.
I worked with Aspergers students in two previous positions, one as a Life Skills Trainer, and the 2nd one as a Employment Specialist. I loved my jobs helping people with Special needs, Aspergers in particular.
I have training with teaching special needs children, specifically those with autism, and held a position as life skills trainer for a young boy in Kona, Hawaii where I was living at the time. Here in Dallas, I worked for the Autism Treatment Center as an Employment Specialist, finding jobs in the community for people with Autism. I also have assisted children with Autism in the Special Olympics as a volunteer/coach. I have a sincere interest in working with this population.
I cooked professionally for 2 1/2 years for a woman who was too busy. I cooked vegetarian meals, as well as meals which included meat.
I cook for myself every week now, and love exploring new recipes and the shopping process as well.
I have experience teaching Kindergarten age, and taught 6th graders, as a substitute, all subjects. My degree is in English with an all-level teaching certificate. I worked with different grade levels of Special Needs students helping with school assignments in English, math, and reading. I especially enjoy teaching the elementary grades.
My education is in English and teaching. I have experience working with improving the communication with persons who have other primary languages. My students have been very pleased with our results and I love the process and seeing there improvements.
I have been a Certified Swimming Instructor, a life guard, and taught swimming lessons for 2 years. I am a good swimmer myself and know all the strokes.
