Dear parents and academics,
My name is Aja and I am an MA Art History Candidate at Southern Methodist University. I have completed all course-work for my degree and am spending this Spring semester wrapping up my MA thesis project. I have worked in, and studied the field of art history for almost eight years, and I am a dedicated scholar. During my two years at SMU, I occupied the position of Teaching Assistant to Dr. Adam Herring, Associate Professor of Pre-Columbian Art History. I have extended experience with students and a dedication to the major components of the field which are content specific writing, careful analysis and breadth of knowledge. I have completed surveys, or general pre-requisites of Art History, and also more specific courses on periods like: Modern Art, Land Art, Impressionism, Symbolism, Post-Colonial Art, Pre-Columbian Art, Early Modern Brazilian Art, the Multi-Cultural and Feminist Movements, Art Historical Methodologies (2), Spanish Medieval Art, and more...
My approach to tutoring is catered to the syllabus and professor expectations in all cases. Students I work with will not be guided in memorization, but will have the chance to develop skill sets necessary for most types of study in the Liberal Arts. I have a strong dedication to effective communication through concise writing, and exploration of ideas. it is my hope to not only allow for student's success in their Art History courses, but also the frameworks necessary to produce A+ work in other classes as well. My knowledge and passion for the arts makes my assistance that much more captivating for students. Art history, as a field, is known for its interdisciplinary character, and this definitely impacts my approach.
I would love the opportunity to meet with you, or your son or daughter, to see if we are the right fit!
Thank you for your time,
Aja Martin, M.A. Art History Candidate 2011
