College essays, text analysis, public speaking or help in reading more easily; whatever your needs, I enjoy teaching and can help you in a fun and engaging way.

I have a background in English and theater. I've taught SAT prep for a major company as well as being a tutor. I am a professional non-fiction writer and actress and have coached many students. I am also a mom and enjoy kids of all ages.

We will work hard but you (or your child) will enjoy your time with me and will see results!

If you are interested in something that I have not covered here, please feel free to ask me about it. I will give you an honest answer as to whether it is something I am qualified to assist you with. Please feel free to ask questions about my background and methodology. I look forward to hearing from you.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I am a professional writer and avid reader. I am able to tutor students in reading and writing skills up through the college level.

I can help with reading comprehension, essay composition or other English requirements.

My teaching style is challenging to the student, but I believe in being approachable and having a good time while learning.

ESL/ESOL

I enjoy working with ESL students to help them improve their English speaking, reading and writing abilities. I admire adults and young adults who are fluent in another language and who are taking the time to learn how to converse in the sometimes confusing English language.

My sessions are rich with content, but I employ numerous techniques to assist students who want to be more fluent in English and to succeed at school or in the workplace.

Public Speaking

I have a BFA degree in theater and have been a professional actor for more than 20 years.

In the corporate and educational arenas, I have coached multiple students who are preparing to write and present speeches in public. Worked with Virtuoso, Halliburton, RHS, and numerous other clients.

My style is warm and comfortable. I teach my students how to relax, be natural and give the best speech they possibly can. Sessions with me are fun but also focused on results.

Reading

I'm a lifelong literature fan and avid reader. My professional experience as a writer is also an aid to me in teaching current literature from YA through current bestsellers.

I have taught Princeton Review classes in Reading, Vocabulary and Writing.

I enjoy kids and have taught reading to children aged 6 through college.

SAT Reading

I am a former Princeton Review teacher for many years. I have experience with one on one tutoring with very positive results.

SAT Writing

Experienced SAT teacher and tutor. As a professional writer, I am well versed in writing effective essays and deciphering difficult passages.

I offer lessons that are fun but very focused on achieving the most effective results.

Theatre

If you need to prepare for an audition or a role, I can help! I have a degree in theater and have worked professionally in New York and in Dallas.

I've worked with students in elementary school, high school, college and beyond. My goal is to help you find material that matches your age and personality (if you are preparing for an audition) understand the script that you're working with, to find ways to relate to it, and to be confident when you deliver it.

My sessions are about working hard but having fun doing it. I've studied Meisner and other acting techniques and will find the methods that work best for you!

Writing

Whether you need help writing a high school or college essay, or producing a piece of professional communication for your job, I can help.

I have been a professional writer for more than 20 years and have written in many different realms, including long form papers and articles for many publications.

Grammar, structure, finding a strong personal voice. These are all areas which I can help with.

Tell me you need to work on and we can set up appropriate schedule of sessions.
