February 3, 2015: For the remainder of this week and through the next (Feb 2-6, 9-13), I will be available to tutor from 9am until 2:30pm (pending drive time) as well as from 6:30pm-10:30pm. I am excited to have this time to work with you and I look forward to assisting you!!

I enjoy tutoring

math mostly, but as time as progressed, I have learned that I just enjoy helping in any way I can!! I still favor math, and I do believe a big key to success in math is recognizing and understanding the terminology, as well as finding a way for students to comprehend and even embrace the processes they are attempting to follow. I know that everyone hears how math is the basis for most of what we see and hear, but

mathematics class is about seeing the process written down on paper, which seems to be the intimidating part. I love the constancy of math--no matter how you make it look, one plus one will always be two!! ;)

I have four years tutoring experience, community college and younger students, and have a level II college

reading and learning association certification.

**UPDATE**

I am now a recent college graduate, obtaining not only a Bachelor's of

Science in Interdisciplinary Studies degree, but I also obtained my 4-8 teaching certification through the state of Texas!! My certification came with a requirement of student teaching completion, to which was a more than enlightening 16 weeks!! As I have already been offered and accepted a position as a 8th grade math teacher for the up and coming 2014-2015 school year, my plans for the summer are to focus more on aiding and assisting others through tutoring. I hope to step down as a Supervisor (I was promoted two years ago!) with Starbucks so that I can focus on not only bettering a student's comprehension, but bettering myself and growing with each student I tutor while spending more time with my own family as well.

My teaching style allows for the student to have a lot of self-revelation through answering leading questions, practicing hands on when applicable, and reviewing of mistakes—I find it is very helpful to not ‘erase’ a problem when a mistake has been made but to instead circle the mistake and begin again, the error is watching to ensure the error is not repeated. Math should be READ first, understanding that the last part of the challenge in the equation is usually the calculations. Words used in mathematics often have the same meaning as when used outside of a mathematical situation or scenario, and it is the definition that will aide in remembering the formula. Do your best to know the math rules (formulas), and try not to concern yourself with the why of that rule so much. Every rule is built off of the rule previous to it and recognizing that pattern will lead to more successful solving and also begin to explain the why as you progress.

Thank you so much for taking the time to look at my profile, and I look forward to helping you reach you or your child's educational goals!!

Hello Sylvia. If your equation actually says x2 + 6x + 8, then you can think about the factors (the numbers your multiply together) of 8 that will add up to make 6. 7 and -1 would add to six, but they do not make a product of 8. 4 and 2
would add to six,...

Using substitution means solving for one variable and using that answer to solve for the other variable. In your case it
's solved for you because it says that 4y = x so when you see x in the other equation, replace it with 4y...
3(4y) - y = 70 12y - y = 70...

If you and your son are graphing liner equations, then all you need to do is make a table, selecting different values for x and calculating for y. For example:
If your equation were y = 3x - 1 then you could choose 0 for x and then y would equal -1 and your...
