Hello! My name is Sarah, and I am a certified Special Education teacher. While my Master's degree is in teaching students with severe and multiple disabilities, I also have experience working with kiddos in general education as well. As a special educator, I have gathered a great deal of materials and strategies for helping students to understand foundational concepts in Math and Language Arts. I also have experience using technology as an instructional aid (particularly the iPad), which can be very motivating for students who are struggling in these areas.

I am a certified Special Education teacher currently working in a classroom serving students in grades K-3. I have previously worked as a resource teacher and interventionist in grades K-5. As a Special Educator, my focus has always been on the core subjects of Math and Language Arts, but I do also work in Science and Social Studies as I am able. I have developed many strategies for teaching students in the elementary grades.

Phonics

Both phonics and phonemic awareness are key elements of teaching students to decode difficult or unfamiliar words while reading. I like to teach different aspects of phonics using rhymes, chants, and songs, which help my students to better remember these skills and be able to draw on them as needed. My Bachelor's degree is in Inclusive Education, Grades 1-6, and my Master's degree is in Special Education: Severe and Multiple Disabilities. In my studies, various internships, and now my full time teaching position, I have gained tremendous experience working with students with disabilities, ranging from mild learning disabilities, to cerebral palsy, to profound autism.
