First, I absolutely love my job, and I am 110% dedicated to your success. I wake up in the morning excited to teach my students! I hope my passion for teaching and learning will always be obvious in our classes.

MY TEACHING STYLE
I will work hard for you. I will create a specified plan for your style of learning, but I will push you to do achieve as much as you wish to achieve. I have high expectations, but I know that everyone progresses at a different pace. I truly enjoy helping you reach your goals: editing an essay, writing an essay for college, learning Spanish, learning English, preparing for the SAT or ACT, and more. I make sure the time we spend in class is effective and organized. There is a specific goal for each lesson and we will achieve that goal.

ENGLISH / SPANISH
I am in love with languages and how to learn them effectively. I am constantly trying new ways to develop learning materials with games, activities, listening exercises and worksheets, and I spend my weekends browsing bookstores, websites, and talking to other language teachers about the best ways to teach languages. I live for it. I am currently learning Japanese and French. That being said, I have a very acute knowledge of how languages are best learned or how to help you pass a difficult language class. I make class fun and effective, filled with high energy and zeal. My level of grammar and syntax are at a very high level from over 15 years of learning foreign languages.

I have taught English As A Second Language and Spanish with American Airlines, Samsung, Hitachi, Ferrovial, LBJ Express, ATESVI, and many more.

English Writing and Literature
I have a degree in English Literature from Boston University. I was accepted into a study abroad program in Madrid, Spain, where I studied history and literature in Spanish. I also studied in Guadalajara, Mexico, where I got my English As A Second Language certificate. After that I taught English to children, teens and adults in Campeche, Mexico. I also opened my own English tutoring school in Campeche. Before my career as a teacher began I wrote for the Boston Phoenix newspaper and Stuff at Night Magazine in Boston, Massachusetts. So, I have been a writer and an editor in many respects. I am currently taking a poetry class as well. I know how to write an exciting college essay or paper, as well as check for grammar mistakes. It comes as second nature to me, and I always find the mistakes in New York Times Best Sellers every single week. My eyes are just attuned to finding mistakes, just as much as I am attuned to breathing.

Writing: Essays, Cover Letters, and More
Writing and writing well is an essential part of life, whether you are an engineer, scientist, math major or doctor. It is important to be able to express yourself well through words, explain your side of the story, your argument, and defend yourself intellectually using the correct words and grammar. I can help you write a cover letter, college essay, and more. I will show you how to write an exciting college essay that will catch the eye of the reader or write a cover letter that will grab the attention of the HR department.

SAT/ACT Test Prep: after 25 students, all have improved their ACT/SAT scores, including their essay scores.

I am a dynamic, driven and determined tutor, not to mention fun. Whether you need to pass a particularly difficult exam or you want to learn or improve English or Spanish, we will work together to succeed.

Send me an email and we will strategize on how to structure your lessons in order to reach your goals.

I am sorry to hear this Michael. Throughout our tutoring you gave me 4 and 5 stars. We did have a communication issue at the beginning, and I thought we resolved it. The day we had a communication problem, I did not charge you for the lesson, because I want students only to pay for lessons they are satisfied with. I think this is very generous.

If you thought I was not a good fit for you, I wish you had chosen another tutor instead of continuing to be disappointed, while saying nothing to me about it. You had a big challenge ahead of you: learn to translate a document from Spanish to English without taking the 4 semesters of Spanish class that are required. I knew this would be a challenging assignment, but I truly love helping students reach difficult goals. I was trying to help you see the big picture of translation and not focus on so many small details since you only had 2.5 months (less than 20 hours of tutoring!). I would have been happy to give you an etymology lesson, but you hired me to help you pass this test. I know tough love can be difficult, but just as we do not always like our trainers at the gym, we thank them later when we get the results that we want.

Sometimes English students ask me: "Why do some people write comin' instead of coming?" Well, I say, it is a shortened form of the word, and native speakers in many languages cut words off at the end. "But why? Why do English speakers take off the g?" the student asks, exasperated. Sometimes, that's just the way the language is. I have taken language classes in 4 languages, and many of my Japanese, French, and Spanish professors at Boston University have told me, "That's just the way the language is."

With you I was focused on the goal of teaching you how to translate a level 4 Spanish text in 2.5 months, and I felt our time was better spent on other things. My goal was for you to pass the test.

For students looking for a tutor, WyzAnt has a satisfaction guarantee. If you are not happy with your tutor, please do not continue to book this tutor. I urge you to find a fit that is good for you. The goal is happy, effective learning. I also suggest planning well in advance for important tests such at the ACT, SAT, PhD exit Spanish tests, and more.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ASVAB

Taking tests has always been a forte of mine, and explaining how to pass them has always been another one. I understand how tests like the SAT, ACT, and ASVAB work, and I like sharing the secrets to passing these tests. I cannot wait to work with anyone who really wants to rock the ASVAB and get a great position in the military. This test is extremely important in determining your future with the military, and you don't want to start off on the wrong foot by not preparing. You want to show them that you mean business, and that you are there to work. Start off the right way; I will help you succeed.

English

With over 4 years of teaching English experience, I know I can help you reach any and all of your English goals. I too have had the experience of learning a second language, so I think this gives me the empathy and patience required when helping students with their goals. I truly look forward to helping you reach your English goals, whether they be simple conversations, college level writing, or understanding those tricky phrasal verbs. Please contact me, and let's get started.

ESL/ESOL

I have been teaching English for over 5 years in Mexico and the US. I am a full time tutor in the subject, so you, my student, are my full time job. I make sure to cover a variety of topics in my lessons: phrasal verbs (to boil down to), idioms (Hold your horses!), slang (What a bummer!), cultural curiosities (You bet!), conversation starters, and more. Even better, the class is customized to what YOU need to learn. Since I've also lived in another country learning a new language, I truly have the patience and empathy needed to successfully assist you with your English goals. I understand the challenges. I will make it fun and interesting too. I also love explaining the 'why's' about your new language.

GED

I have a very specific course for the GED. After taking a GRE course for graduate school, I started designing my own course for the GED, SAT, and ACT. The course covers all areas of the test, and all of my students have raised their scores. I make it fun, while helping you reach your goals.

ISEE

The ISEE is very similar to the PSAT. I have prepared many students for both tests. With me and a lot of hard work, your child will succeed on this test. I usually allow at least 6 weeks of preparation so there is less stress. Of course, there are always special exceptions. Please let me know if I can help you prepare for this entrance exam.

Phonics

I have a degree in English literature, and I have worked with children for years, teaching them the patterns of the English language in reading. Sight words and daily reading will quickly give your child the confidence to read more and, most of all, the love of reading.

SAT Reading

The SAT Reading Test can be approached in a very logical way. Let me help you conquer this section of the test. Running out of time? Trying to read every line of the passage? Rereading the passage over and over again? Don't let this section make your head swim. Please contact me, and let me help you master this section of the SAT.

Spanish

I am qualified to teach Spanish, especially here in Dallas, because I have been tutoring here with the Dallas curriculum for the past 4 years. I have lived in both Spain and Mexico studying history and literature in Spanish, so I bring a wide variety of knowledge to my craft. I understand the challenges an English speaker has with Spanish, so I have mastered expertise explanations that clear up any confusion.

TAKS

The TAKS test was designed in a specific way to teach children how to read actively, learn problem solving techniques, and basically, to learn how to take these types of tests. Texas wants its students prepared for standardized testing, and is attacking this by giving a TAKS test each year until junior year of high school. These tests are logical, and can be passed easily with preparation. They do not necessarily test knowledge, but rather logic. Together, we can get past the stress of these tests. They don't have to be a nightmare each year that strains the child and parents. Let me help you prepare in advance. Don't wait til the last minute!

TOEFL

The TOEFL test wants to make sure that you have an academic and functioning knowledge of the English language. They are going to test every aspect of your language skills. Let me prepare you for this test with my excellent pronunciation practice, grammar drills, writing prompts, and conversation skills. I look forward to helping you conquer this test and move on to reaching your goals.
