I've heard sewing called a "lost art" several times in the past few years, but it's definitely not lost on me. My love for sewing started at the age of 7 when my mother got tired of me asking too many questions while she made clothes for my siblings and me--she said, "Here, sit," and for the past 35 years, I've been sitting in front of a machine and a serger making clothes, gifts, handbags, stuffed animals, baby things, even wedding gowns. I have taught sewing for more than two decades and my students have been as fresh as 7 years old and as experienced as 80 years young.
Anyone can sew, young or old, male or female. Even if your mom or gramma got frustrated with you and gave up, I can teach you and you can learn. I can teach you how a sewing machine works, details about fabrics and notions, what sewing tools are all about, how to lay out and cut patterns, and how to construct garments and other projects. All you have to do is want to sew.
