I have a Master’s in English with an emphasis in Rhetoric and have taught ENGL1301 & ENGL1302 in both the university and public school settings since 1999. In these courses, I teach logic (avoiding fallacious argument, syllogistic proofs, etc.), organization, critical reading/writing, and research skills. As a certified English teacher, I have also taught British literature (Advanced Placement Literature & Composition) since 2004 and periodically have taught creative writing.
Former students return from university to say that their writing skills far exceed those of their fellow students and that their papers impress their professors because of the level of competency shown in their work. I also teach professional development classes in how to teach grammar/punctuation/syntax, how to teach poetry analysis, and how to teach descriptive narrative. Additionally, I present at a minimum of one professional conference each year--often two to three per year.
Over the years, I have tutored high school and college students, and I have assisted graduate and doctoral students with both their research and the proofing of their theses/dissertations.
