My name is Michael and I am a graduate from Rice University with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Cell Biology. Attending Rice and being a part of its rigorous educational standards allowed my to develop a strong sense of how important learning and hard work are to becoming successful in today's society. At the same time, I also realized how difficult it can be for some students to learn, for a variety of reasons, and I want to be able to help my students overcome these hurdles and unleash their potential.
As I majored in Biochemistry and Cell Biology, I have a very strong background in the biological sciences, along with related subjects such as chemistry and math. At the same time, my education was also focused on the humanities, which allowed me to develop a sense of the nuances of the English language with respect to expression and communication. While these are my strongest subjects, I am very comfortable with tutoring subjects such as the SAT, ACT, and piano, among others.
I would consider my teaching method to be Socratic. I believe that students learn best when they understand their studies better than simply what the homework is asking them; by asking my students questions about their comprehension and asking them to defend their reasoning, I guide my students along a path that allows them to come to the correct conclusion in a way that makes sense to them, rather than simply accepting a statement at face value. I am also very patient with my students and do my best never to overwhelm them.
I am always striving to improve myself and offer the best tutoring experience to my students, so I often ask for feedback and I do not charge for lessons that I believe are substandard. I am also willing to negotiate my rates depending on various circumstances. I do have a cancellation policy of 2 hours, but I am willing to reschedule lessons that need to be missed. If a lesson is canceled without sufficient notice, I charge 50% of what I would have charged had the lesson occurred.
I appreciate your taking the time to read this, and I look forward to hearing from you in the future!
