Greetings! Thank you for reading a bit about who I am and what I love to do. I am an ordained minister and educator with over 15 years experience in these two areas. My teaching philosophy is whole-person oriented. I love to help people learn new skills and discover the joy that comes with joining head and heart into the study process. It is my promise that you will indeed learn what you need to learn, and that it will be enjoyable, perhaps even fun, to do so.

I am very pleased with the progress Alex is making with my son. The strategies Alex is using are very personalized and appear to keep him challenged and interested in math. He also makes math fun! This has been a good match for my son. Alex works out of the box and seeks to find what make each student ticks and personalize his lesson plans while keeping the student on track for the school's curriculum. Good job Alex!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a licensed minister with a Master's degree in theology. I served as a full-time pastor for 7 years and taught many Bible studies on various subjects. Additionally, I have taught biblical Hebrew on the seminary level and enjoy instructing students who desire to learn this language of the Bible.
When I was a pastor in Houston, I conducted a chess tutoring program. In addition to this, twice a month I and two other chess teachers from the local school district held chess tournaments at various locations. I have taught various aspects of the game, spanning opening, midgame, and end-game strategies to players of all ages.
I have a Master's degree in theology with a concentration in apologetics, which is the science and art of rational argumentation. I possess 18 credit units at the Master's level in this concentration. This discipline studies what constitutes a cohesive case by identifying logical fallacies and other erroneous tactics in argumentation and persuasion. I have taught logic and argumentation for a college and seminary. My knowledge of this subject is well-versed, spanning from early Aristotelian syllogisms to modern discussions of alternative ways of knowing (epistemology).
As a pastor in the Houston, Texas area, I developed and launched a community tutor program which included phonics as one of its subjects. I have also taught introductory biblical language courses on the college level, taking students through various phonetic devices such as diphthongs and consonant blends. These skills are necessary for proper pronunciation and confident reading. Having taught phonics to children of various elementary grade levels, I am qualified to assist students to achieve proficiency in these areas.
Public Speaking has been a passion of mine for many years. In high school I was president of the speech club. After college and I entered seminary and enjoyed courses in public speaking and sermon preparation. After graduating from seminary, I pastored a church full-time for 7 years and delivered lectures, sermons, and speeches on a regular basis. I am well-versed in the basics and finer nuances of speech preparation and delivery.
My experience in speech is extensive: I have delivered hundreds of lectures and sermons as a pastor and instructor at Bible Colleges; I have been a speaker at leadership and academic symposiums around the country; and, in my younger days, I was president of my high school Speech Club. It would be my pleasure to help you craft an effective speech for any occasion.
