Hello! I believe that knowledge is power. That's why I teach, why I'm always learning, and why I'd love to help YOU learn! I am passionate about science, and I'd be delighted to help you or your student understand the beauty and logic of biology and chemistry. My last boss said about my teaching, "Rose-Anne’s conversational style makes even the dense, often abstract world of science accessible and interesting to the non-specialist."
I have a PhD in neuroscience (Northwestern University, 2009) and ten years of research experience. My areas of expertise are molecular biology, genetics, and neuroscience. In addition, I am currently expanding my tutoring services into chemistry. I majored in chemistry in college and have begun tutoring general chemistry students. I've taught and worked with students at many levels, including undergraduate, graduate, and medical students. Working with students one-on-one or in small groups is my favorite way to teach.
I have a passion for writing and good communication. I have honed my writing skills in a variety of media, including science publications, presentations, blogging, and grant-writing. If you'd like to improve your non-fiction writing skills, I'd love to work with you.
My teaching philosophy is that a good teacher helps a student learn how to teach herself. In a technologically advanced society such as ours, scientific literacy is an essential skill for making informed decisions. My goal is to inspire and demonstrate scientific literacy and lifelong learning.
