I have a degree in English with a minor in Mathematics from Sam Houston State University. I have three years of tutoring experience for college-level math (including prealgebra, college algebra, trig., business math, and some calculus), and I have substitute taught for Pearland ISD. I am "highly qualified" to teach high school math (this means I have passed the certification test). I have also tutored HTML, the GRE, the SAT, the ACT, ESL, Latin, and Spanish.

I got a perfect score on SAT math and a perfect score on GRE math. For both I only tried once. So I am very accurate when it comes to mental math, and I can spot errors quickly.

My favorite math subjects were statistics and algebra 2.

I also have a lot of experience proofreading and editing, including an internship with my English dept. in which we worked with the Texas Review Press. My primary focus while studying English was to learn about language, writing, editing and the publishing world rather than literature.

Algebra 1

I have been tutoring high school and college-level math courses for over two years, and algebra 1 lies at the base of these. I have tutored many students for algebra 1, algebra 2, college algebra, and similar classes.

Grammar

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English and I have years of experience proofreading; my concentration in my degree was on language.

Latin

I took four years of Latin in high school, and I have kept up my grammar and vocabulary enough to tutor at least the first two levels.

Spanish

I took five semesters of college Spanish, and my degree is in English. I have kept up my Spanish with other speakers here in Texas, and I have been to Spanish-speaking countries numerous times to help keep up my abilities.

HTML

I was the teacher's assistant for web design class in high school, and I am very experienced in making and maintaining websites from scratch using only HTML.

SAT Math

I personally scored 800/800 in SAT Math and have seen improvement in past students. This fall I am planning to focus on tutoring SAT Math using the Princeton Review workbooks.

Proofreading

I have a degree in English and have been proofreading for friends for about a decade. I proofread for my wife who is a Ph.D. student, and I keep up with current expectations in editing. I have some knowledge of statistical verbiage and don't mind editing scientific papers.

Spelling

I have an English degree; some knowledge of Spanish, Latin, Greek, and Hebrew; and a lot of experience proofreading. Personally I have always excelled in spelling.

ESL/ESOL

I have a degree in English and have been out of the country on mission trips five times. I have also translated (from English to Spanish) before.
I have been tutoring a student in ESL (both writing and speaking) for three months now. I took many linguistics classes in college and I plan to return to school to study linguistics or translation.
