I have been a teacher for 8 years. I've taught students from Pre-K through 8th grade. I love tutoring and working with students to find what will "click" for them! In my classroom I choose small group instruction for my main teaching method and I truly believe that the best way to reach any child is as close to one-on-one as possible.

While my specialty is math I've taught every subject K-6th grade. While teaching 8th grade math I also taught Pre-AP Algebra, and earned an award for student achievement on the Pre-AP exam.

My philosophy for tutoring is that it must be intensive, but that doesn't mean it can't be fun. Children can learn through games just as well, if not better than, a worksheet. By teaching to a student's strengths we can more easily help them where they struggle!

I'm available in the evenings and I'm ready to start helping your student today!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra I is one of my favorite subjects. Most people shy away from functions and factoring, that, to me, is the most fun!

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a fully certified teacher in grades K-6 for Georgia and Texas. I have a master's degree in Mathematics and I have taught for 7 years in public schools.

Elementary Math

Elementary math is the foundation for everything else! If students don't feel confident in their math skills by 5th grade, middle school and high school will be become extremely frustrating! My mission is to help students LOVE math in elementary school, which sets them up for a lifetime of success in school, and life!

Phonics

I have taught reading in elementary. Most recently I have tutored students struggling in reading from Pre-K through 5th grade through a district program in San Antonio. Phonics helped several of my students to have a better understanding of pronunciations and gave them the confidence they desperately needed to start reading more often.

Social Studies

I am certified in the state of Georgia to teach Social Studies grades K-8th. I have taught a self contained classroom, with Social Studies being one of our core subjects, for 6 years. I am very familiar with the course.

Every chance you get, check your list. 24 hours before the exam- Make sure you get plenty of sleep! Not just the night before, but the day before as well. You don't want to go into the test frazzled. I think tutoring can be one of the most rewarding experiences for a student. They can see quick growth in a short period of time because they have the teacher's full attention. A tutor that has experience in the classroom knows just how much more can be done in a one-on-one setting versus a classroom of 30 eager minds. Students that are already struggling can feel lost and not know how to even... read more
