As a work-from-home mother of two, I can understand the frustrations that one experiences when you don't grasp the concept being covered. I am patient and work with the student to find the right "switch" for the individual that turns on the light of understanding.
My background in tutoring goes back to my days as a fourth grade elementary student. I was asked by the educators to assist the first and second grade students in their math studies. I have never forgotten the honor I felt at being handed such an important task as passing on knowledge to others. I have tutored in math across many grade levels including collegiate-level calculus. Although math has always been my passion, I have worked in business as an Executive Assistant for 18+ years. Through my work experience I have gained strength in numerous software applications. These strengths have been called upon to instruct others in the use of these programs. Prior to relocating due to my husband's employment, I was in my third year of studies in Aerospace Engineering. My time spent at Texas A&M taught me a lot about study skills which I like to pass on to my students.
I enjoy helping others find the joy in learning that I have. I can communicate well across different age levels and have daily practice as my children are four and seventeen. I feel I offer a different view on education since I have experienced the important role it plays in our lives. I also thank my mother, who as an educator, taught me how to listen as well as teach.
My grandmothers taught me to cook when I was big enough to be around the stove. I enjoy cooking and coming up with new recipes. Though I am not a professional that was taught in a culinary school, I have the knowledge of generations of cooks that know how to take separate ingredients and make a dish that will a family would love to eat. I have taught friends and family how to cook with great results. I have been cooking for about 25 years and can think of nothing better than to share basic cooking skills with others.
I have worked with MS Excel for more than 17 years in corporate and educational settings. I have experienced first hand the changes and worked with others to guide them to become proficient users of this wonderful software. I have taken company guided courses to become a master user and would love to share my knowledge to help you improve your skills and understanding.
I have used Microsoft Outlook for the majority of the 16+ years I have worked in business. I use it for my home-based virtual business solutions company. I am used to working with meeting scheduling, calendar management and contact management through Outlook for both the main user and setting it up for authorized users to access the main user's information. I use the tasks to provide for time-management and deadline reminders. I have worked with it through an Exchange server to provide remote access and mobile device syncing. I am used to walking through the set-up on phones, laptops and desktops. I am proficient in using flags, color coding and sorting features to assist in prioritizing incoming emails. I have set up auto archiving and the creation/use of folders to ease data retrieval.
I have been sewing since I was 12. My grandmother taught me and I completed my first outfit at 12 and have been hooked ever since. I can take patterns and adjust them to fit or take parts of multiple patterns and work them together into a custom design. I have been retained to make custom outfits. I have the ability to sew by hand or machine and easily move from clothing to quilting and other projects. Sewing takes time to learn the basics and practice to refine your skills.
I played volleyball from 6th grade through my senior year. I attended a number of volleyball camps during that time. I played some in leagues since graduating. I have coached girls individually and donated my time to coach in a community league. My main position during my playtime was setter. This takes a leader as you need to know the abilities of all of the team members so that you can help coordinate based on the strengths that are currently on the court. A setter is responsible for placing the ball in the area for the next team member to get a hit/spike and then be immediately prepared to back up the hitter in case of a block. All roles on the team are vital to the success of the team and thus ever member needs to know how to use their strengths to compliment the others. Once that is achieved then the team begins to work as one unit instead of individuals. I love working with others to improve and refine their skills to become the best team player they can be.
Great all around tutor. — Kate is a very knowledgeable and patient tutor who helped me tremendously with my statistics class. Kate helped me with every assignment without any difficulty. Math is not my subject and I have struggled with math for many years, but Kate wa ...
