Loyola University (MBA)
I have been teaching math since 1983 at both the high school and college levels. After I got my MBA, I started teaching business courses such as accounting, finance, and economics at a community college, but math and statistics are my favorites. Most of the students I work with are at the high school level or above, and many are enrolled in online courses for which there is little instructor-led support. I also do test prep for ACT and SAT.
I am available evenings and weekends and am flexible as to location. I will tutor in your home or in the local Borders, Starbucks, or library if it suits your needs. I travel with a laptop, so computer applications such as Excel, Word, SPSS and Access are also a possibility. I have been teaching math since 1983 at both the high school and college levels. Louise is a great tutor. She's professional and punctual. My son is very happy to have her as his tutor. She explains the lessons very well. Thank you WyzAnt for helping us find an excellent tutor.
My tutor Louise V. was absolutely phenomenal! I am a Graduate Psychology student. I am working on my second Master’s degree and had not taken a Statistics class since Undergraduate. Louise arrived early to our appointment and we began work immediately which I was very appreciative of so that the most could be made of our time. She is extremely efficient and thorough in assisting you in answering questions and helping you to understand. She is very professional and an expert on the subject.
You are a great Tutor!
You have helped me with all the math doubts I had. Because of this, I was able to pass my Exam for my Certification.
I would like to thank you for your help and would like you to know that I will in the present and future recommend you to anyone who might need assistance in math. Kind Regards!
My son got an "89" on his Algebra 2 test!! Thank you for all your help! I'm sure we will be needing your help in the future.
Ms. Louise V. was very prompt. She explained the subject thoroughly in a way that made it easy for me to understand. Easy to reach by phone and responded to phone messages in a timely manner.
I hired Louise for my son who had struggled with a junior level statistics class 3 previous times. He needed this class to graduate and was the only thing holding him back. Louise came to the rescue and somehow was able to simplify this difficult class for him. She taught him how to effectively use a graphing calculator and Excel. The end result was a very high "B" and a graduation diploma. We could not have done it without Louise. I recommend her completely! Absolutely the best.
Did not appear to know the material. Spent too much time thinking about how to do problems. Very nice lady but not all that great with Pre-cal. Was a waste of time and money.
I left my tutoring session disappointed. I really did not gain any additional knowledge after spending over 2 hours with her. The same problems I needed help with, she needed help with. After taking my quiz today I received the same grade I received last week without her help (80%). Overall not impressed.
Tutor Louise's communication skills were very professional. She takes pride in being punctual, and is very familiar with my present academics. I believe she was "God" sent to me. I needed someone who would be patient with me, when explaining how to do my assignments. I would recommend this company to others. Thank you so much!
Louise is very patient and made statistics easier to understand. Will use her again as well as recommend her to others!
She was very good at explaining statistical terminology and the concepts. She was also very patient with me. Loved her!!
She is easy to talk to and my son who is 15 really learned so much from her. She knows her material very well! We would use her again.
Louise spent a lot of time with my mom helping her with statistics, especially SPSS software.
Louise is great and easy to converse with. She knows the topics and doesn't have to re-learn them before she gets to helping you. My mom is an RN who needed help with statistics (online) as part of an advanced degree. Louise was great to have a local resource.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I earned my MBA back in 1982. Since then I have taught all kinds of business courses, mostly at the community college level. These include business, economics, accounting, and finance.
I have taught computer applications for business, and back in the late 1980s I taught spreadsheet applications for business. My (adult) students included both businessmen and administrative professionals.
Currently, my job title is "statistician," but most of the work I do as part of the Finance department is business-related.
I have been using Access since 2000. Access is essential when accommodating the demands of the large healthcare organization for which I work. I have also used Access to generate the stats for the articles I publish in professional journals, the most recent of which examined the birth outcomes of Medicaid and CHIP women.
I can design Access tables, queries, and reports; create complex criteria statements employing algebraic or logical statements; and import or export data from Access in a variety of formats. If designing an Access database for use by others, I can make Access user-friendly by creating easy-to-use forms for data input.
I have worked with students in the past who have failed the test and achieved better than average results. My most recent student, who I started tutoring in math when she was a HS sophomore, had failed the TAKS the year before but after weekly tutoring she passed the 10th grade TAKS and later the exit TAKS easily.
Another student I worked with starting in 6th grade did very well on her standardized tests which gained her admission to LSU. I am still working with her - she will graduate this December.
As far as hands-on experience with the TAKS test goes, I worked for a brief time (about a year) with the Houston Independent School District in the Research and Accountability department. One of my duties there was to look for evidence of TAKS cheating by 3rd and 5th graders. They had contracted with a vendor to do this work but also wanted an in-house analysis which would point them in the right direction should there be any problems. I spent a lot of time with those tests and became familiar with how they were structured.
