I graduated from Lamar University in the Fall of 2012 majoring in Psychology along with a double minor in Chemistry & Biology. I have taken college level Biology 1 & 2, Microbiology, Biochemistry 1, Genetics, Chemistry 1 & 2, Organic Chemistry 1 & 2, Anatomy & Physiology 1 & 2, along with all the basic courses, and just about every Psychology course offered. I am capable of teaching these courses at ALL levels of education (elementary, junior high, high school, or college). I was a student-athlete at Lamar for the past 4 years and played football. I plan on attending either Medical School or Dental School in the future.
I have been a personal tutor for a few local high school kids for the last 2 years, I tutored for Lamar for a semester, and also was referred by faculty to be a Student Instructor (which is basically a tutor for the entire class and offers sessions to help students understand lecture material). I truly enjoy working with other students and love to see when a student has a "lightbulb" moment!
I don't necessarily have one exact tutoring method that I use because I believe that all students are different and need to be tutored to their unique needs and personality. I do like to find a happy medium of having fun but also getting work done and understanding the material. Usually when tutoring a high school student or younger, I would like to meet with a parent or parents first without the student present to talk about issues and struggles that the student is encountering. I have a fairly flexible schedule and am a very adaptive person when it comes to scheduling tutoring sessions. Lastly, I truly believe in one of Albert Einstein's many famous quotes, "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough". I try my best to use this as a strategy in tutoring and also as a learning tool for students to apply to their future education.
