Hi everyone, my name is Jason, and I'm a medical school student in at Texas A&M in Temple. I have a Master's Degree in Medical Sciences from the UNT Health Science Center (GPA: 3.94) and a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from The University of Texas at Austin (GPA 3.44), so I have spent many years developing my knowledge of a broad range of biological sciences, such as anatomy, physiology, genetics, biostatistics, and microbiology. I approach learning the biological sciences in a very organized fashion, but I am also aware that each person has his or her own unique way of learning, be it through visual aids or by reading over the information several times. My first meeting with students will always be focused on finding their preferred mode of learning, and then we'll go forward from there.
While my experience in writing and editing is not as extensive, I am still skilled in those subjects. I took several Journalism and Rhetoric classes in college, which allowed me to polish my writing skills, and I have spent many years proofreading and copy editing the papers of my fellow classmates. These edits would often lead to improved grades.
As for basketball, I have been playing organized basketball for over 11 years now, and I just finished a season with a semi-professional team in Texas called the Central Texas Rhythm. I specialize in the fundamentals of low post play, defense, and off-ball offense. As a senior in high school I coached our Freshman B team to the district championship, and I also served as an assistant coach for the Freshmen A team. I am more than happy to instruct all skill levels, from beginners to more advanced high school players looking to add depth to their game.
For all of my services I start with a free initial evaluation hour to assess the student or athlete. I will also spend this hour discussing expectations and goals of my tutoring with the student or athlete. I am highly flexible, as I can do nights and weekends as well.
I have taken 7 credit hours worth of anatomy as a graduate student at the UNT Health Science Center in Fort Worth. Since our school had human cadavers I was able to receive a very hands-on experience in my learning of anatomy. I received an "A" in both classes and have developed a strong method for learning and understanding human anatomy in the process. I have access to several medical school anatomy textbooks, such as "Clinically Oriented Anatomy."
The key to learning anatomy is understanding the orientation of structures in relation to one another, along with associating structure and function. I will help the student achieve this by identifying his or her preferred learning method and applying that method to the principles of anatomy.
I have spent the last 11 years playing organized basketball both for school and in private leagues. As a senior in high school I coached the Boys Freshmen B Team to the district championship and also served as an assistant coach for the Freshmen A Team. My specializations in basketball are low-post fundamentals, on-ball defense, and off-ball offense.
I have been taking Biology classes at higher education facilities for about 5 years now. Both of my degrees have included a significant amount of coursework in the biological sciences. As an undergraduate I received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology, and later I received a Master of Science in Medical Sciences. As a Medical Sciences major I took many difficult biology courses such as Immunology, Microbiology, Cell Biology, and Biochemistry.
As a graduate student I made an "A" in a rigorous Physiology course that covered all major organ systems. Due to the complicated nature of the material, Physiology is a difficult subject that allows for many different avenues for learning it, and I understand that students can vary in their approaches to learning. My goal will be to help the student find his or her preferred learning method and use that method in helping him or her understand concept.
While receiving a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Texas at Austin I took Journalism, Rhetoric, and History courses that contained significant writing portions. I performed well in all of these classes due in part to my strong grammar and punctuation background from high school. I understand that grammar and punctuation are not always explicitly taught in many middle schools and high schools, so I will work with the student to help them understand the rules.
I will not simply point out and correct errors in a student's paper, but I will explain why the errors are incorrect, and what the student can do to avoid the same error next time.
I took two different statistics courses throughout my education. The first course was an introductory course at Austin Community College, and the second course was a Biostatistics course at the UNT Health Science Center. I received an "A" in both courses and I consider myself well-versed in basic and advanced principles of statistics.
I will help students refine the basic math skills needed to excel in statistics and also help them review statistical concepts through practice and repetition.
