I have worked professionally as an engineer for more than 25 years but have always wanted to teach. I tutored students while going to school to pay for college and I have been actively tutoring kids in middle and high schools for most of my career whether it is with my own kids or as a mentor.
I am patient and flexible in my teaching style. If the student has the willingness to succeed, I am more than willing to meet anyone at the level they need me to meet their needs. I understand that investing in a child at an early stage is critical in forming their opinions of math and science. I emphasize understanding the big picture. I want my tutoring to be more than a way to a better grade. I want to help students find keys to unlock doors for many years to come.
I would like to be engaged before the student is too far behind. This takes commitment to to spend more time and step back as needed to avoid the dual pressure of catching up with lessons from the past while keeping pace with current material. I have worked with kids across all subjects from Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and calculus but would like to specialize in Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry as I feel a good foundation in these subjects is key to success in college level courses that follow.
Most importantly, I believe a good teacher cares about results, listens to the student, challenges as necessary and is always encouraging.
