I have been a teacher and a tutor for 14 years, working in private and public schools in Austin, Hong Kong, Costa Rica, and New York City. This wide range of teaching experience enables me to provide clear explanations of foundational skills as well as a sense of where the curriculum is going. In the words of a recent tutee: "David was a great tutor! Professional, on-time and extremely knowledgeable in math. He is a natural teacher and has a great way of breaking down math concepts."
I have extensive experience tutoring students one-on-one and find this type of educational interaction extremely rewarding. Students often need as much help with study skills and organization as they do with the content of their course. I have techniques and strategies for improving in this area. I have a Master's degree in Education from Texas State and an undergraduate degree from Cornell. I am certified to teach Mathematics 8-12 and Social Studies 8-12 in Texas. I got almost perfect scores on the Math SAT and more recently on the Math GRE; hence I know how to conquer standardized tests.
In a New York Times article (9/13/09), Harvard Education Professor Dede explains: “One-to-one tutoring is the learning method proven time and again to sharply improve a student’s measured performance. A good human tutor can deliver a “home run,” educationally and statistically.” I am that tutor, I enjoy working with children, and I will set you up to succeed!
