I am a Ph.D. candidate and I'm available to tutor History, English, Russian, reading, writing, study skills, and the reading/writing/vocabulary components of all standardized tests. I hold a B.A. in History from the University of California at Santa Cruz, where I graduated with College Honors and Honors in the Major. I earned my M.A. in History (With Distinction!) from California State University Northridge, where I worked with some amazing professors whose open, friendly nature and Socratic method style really influenced my approach to teaching history. I have two years of teaching experience at the University of Texas at Austin, where I lectured, led weekly discussion groups, organized exam preparation sessions, and held office hours in which students consulted with me on an individual basis to help them succeed academically.
I have professional experience designing learning comprehension questions for undergraduate level U.S. History textbooks published by one of the most prominent higher education publishers in the world. I have many years of research and writing experience, and my articles have been published in peer-reviewed academic journals and edited volumes. My teaching/tutoring philosophy is closely related to a student's individual needs. I try to engage the attention of my students by making the material easier to relate to and understand. I enjoy challenging my students to think critically and creatively about history. I have a passion for teaching, a friendly disposition, and I quickly establish a good rapport with all of my students.
