My background is with adolescents, college students, and adult literacy. I have been active with my church youth group at the elementary and junior high ages. I have taught ESL for adults with Family Literacy. The general population of my high school career was lower socioeconomic students. My private tutoring experience includes teaching mature adults to read as well as test prep for high school students. I have raised two (2) daughters and they are both seeking college degrees and gainfully employed.

I have extensive experience with career counseling, advising, helping younger high school students prepare for and enter college both at the junior college and university levels. I am a great listener and accomplished presenter of concepts. I have the ability to translate and create clarify concepts for a variety of learning styles. I taught and guided thousands of students through curriculum and activities designed to mediate and focus students on their short term goals, long term goals, and planning objectives in order to obtain their vision(s) and/or dreams. I have facilitated career training and preparation as well as taught AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) electives. AVID trains students in high school how to prepare for a college experience, how to examine their interests and strengths in order to choose a course of study and higher education best suited for their individual needs. In addition, one of my content certifications is Communications which provides students the exposure to technology and online learning experiences in combination with self-awareness, research, goal-setting, and college exploration.

I taught adults at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced stages of English as a second language through my former school district’s Family Literacy program for four (4) years. The classes of my content area in high school required additional instruction for SAT prep as well as oral speech presentations.

Finally, I am employed part-time with ETS (Educational Testing Services) which is the institution that administers PRAXIS professional certification tests for the education industry.

Study Skills

I am an approved AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) tutor and a certified AVID teacher. I am a proponent of Cornell Notes and studying for every subject each day in order to be immersed in the content.
