Microbiology and chemistry specialist, very creative and adaptive

My strengths are in microbiology, genetics, bioinformatics, and math (up to calculus I). I have a minor in chemistry as well and I am comfortable teaching organic chemistry and biochemistry (both are essential for the Mcat). I currently conduct research in marine microbiology and have used most of the techniques and instruments presented in genetics textbooks. In addition, I am also a master's student but flexible on hours. Scientific writing is also an area I am well versed in. I have written abstracts and held presentations on research data in academia. I use a visually oriented approach and utilize illustrative skills to present topics in a different perspective for students. Many times there is nothing "difficult" about a subject, it is just presented in the wrong manner. I present material in "normal language", as I like to call it, and draw simple diagrams that make a world of difference. I have utilized these approaches in tutoring my peers in courses such as virology, genetics, microbiology, and microbial physiology. Though I have no formal tutoring experience, every peer I have helped has improved in their course work. ESL was another interest of mine and I have in the past developed lesson plans for Spanish speakers learning English. In summary, if you have a child struggling in the sciences or if you yourself are having difficulty, I can show you what is really going on and break down the subject into a simplistic version.

Biology

There is an incredible world out there full of amazing organisms. Marine biology and aquarium keeping are hobbies of mine so I have actually had the privilege to work with some of these unusual creatures. Drawing

Drawing is a hobby of mine though I have had no course work relating to the subject. My father almost decided to become an artist and I grew up around artwork. Public Speaking

As an academic research assistant, I have had to do many presentations on laboratory research or subject areas. I have won two awards for data presentations and I have my own unique method to tackling anxiety in public speaking. It is true that many people have difficulty with public speaking but that can certainly change! I am willing to work with and coach students not only on speaking but presenting information as well.

Genetics

One of my strongest subjects is genetics. As an undergraduate, I aced my course in general genetics as well as a methods in genetics laboratory course concentrating on transposable elements. In addition, I work with a fellow graduate student on a project in mapping genetic similarities within coral populations. I have a complete grasp of metabolic pathways, synthesis mechanisms and theory, biofilm formation mechanisms, and applied microbiology.

Organic Chemistry

Organic chemistry is a course which has a reputation as being difficult and frustrating. Organic chemistry is a different language and it must be taught in such a way for students to understand reaction mechanisms instead of memorization.
