I've been a journalism student for several years, which included serving on two different school papers in prestigious roles. These weren't small schools or papers, either, the latest being a top 13 college paper in the nation. However, since then I've turned my attention to fiction writing and have recently completed a novel.
But I still miss the interaction I used to have with my former staff members, whom I mentored and trained. I've often thought I might become a teacher or professor in my later years; I enjoyed it that much.
Between shopping my novel around and working a day job I'm seeking tutoring students to supplement my income and thirst for that teaching thrill. My experience has mainly been with people at the college level, but I'm more than comfortable with younger ages and can tailor sessions appropriately. I'd be delighted to tutor you or a loved one in anything to do with the written word.
My approach to tutoring depends on the student. I can begin in theory, using invented examples to illustrate concepts and terminology, but I prefer to look at past work and help students see where they can improve. I see this as a more hands-on approach, and more beneficial as the lecturing style, which the student receives elsewhere, is lacking something more times than not.
