I am graduate of the biology program at the University of Texas at Arlington. I have graduated with Latin Honors at the top 10 percent of my class. I enjoy all sciences in general, but I have a true passion for Biology. I use jokes (yes science can be funny), alliterations, mnemonics, and any other learning device I can implement to help make learning a breeze. I work with the child's learning style, whether it be kinesthetic, aural, visual, reading, or writing, in order to maximize their experience. Usually on my first session I spend at least half of the session, sometimes more, assessing the student's learning style and their level of understanding of their current subject. I spend a lot of effort individualizing each student's learning experience.
I am a youth pastor as well and work with ages 12-18 on a regular basis. I teach at the college level as well and have even given a college lecture in Microbiology. Some semesters I have had professors request that I teach a supplemental group for their class. All the students who attend my teaching events attain a B or higher in their class on average. I taught private music lessons for three years, at some points having as many as 18 students. I also previously tutored intermittently for another tutoring service dealing specifically with kids who had ADHD, dyslexia and Asperger syndrome. My experience ranges age wise from 5 years old to 48 years old, and there is certainly no preference to any age group. I just enjoy teaching!
In the past my students have described me as "nutty and fun" but "intellectually challenging." I try to make every lesson enjoyable, memorable, and as challenging as I think you are prepared for.
I'd like to encourage anyone reading this - because that means you probably are looking for help right now - that it's OK to fail every now and again. You rarely remember all the things you got right on an exam, you ALWAYS remember the questions you got wrong. That means it is really easy to avoid making that mistake ever again. See, there is a positive to everything!
Please feel free to ask any questions you may have about me. I hope you'll give me a chance at helping your child succeed.
*Due to current health limitations I am only taking on new students remotely.
