After 18 years with Boeing, I turned my passion for teaching and training into a career. I am certified as a Generalist through the 8 grade and have a good grasp of the core subjects. I find that organization, practice, and multiple ways to look at a subject lead to learning. I will work with a student to find out what their preferred learning style is to help facilitate the most efficient growth. I am convinced that changing routines helps a student learn whereby the location and newness of the environment helps the student recall information that has been taught. A focused, comfortable and positive learning environment is essential for learning.
I have worked in both smaller and larger classroom settings with students with ADHD. Recognizing the need for frequent breaks and allowable use of energy during lessons has made lessons move very smoothly.
I have worked well with students with autism. I set up a structured environment, reward good behavior with frequent breaks and look to see what the student enjoys and use it in the lessons. Visual and hands on learning is frequently successful.
I earned my bachelor's degree in Management in 1995 from Upper Iowa University. I also earned a Master's Degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix in 1997. I have 18 years of experience with Boeing as a Manager. I taught two business courses for University of Maryland Asian Division (Leadership and communication). Currently, I am teaching a Career Investigations course for PACE program in Richardson ISD.
I work well with student's with dyslexia. It is a learning disability, not an indication of a person's intelligence. I create an organized, safe and supportive learning environment for a student to learn to read better.
I am newly certified EC-8. I did my student teaching and long term sub work in 6-8th grade classes and worked in elementary and middle school Special Education. I have three children in High School.
I have the Texas ESL supplemental certification after having prepared for and passed the ESL supplemental test.
I am certified in Elementary Education. I have a supplemental certification in ESL and am certified in Special Education. I have been trained and teach reading. Phonics is a major portion of the reading skills I use in teaching students to read. I am aware of graphemes and morphemes and phonetic awareness that the letters in the alphabet represent sounds and that letter placement and word history affect how a word is pronounced. I also am aware that certain words are sight words and need to be learned through repetition and practice reading.
