I am a highly qualified, professional historian. I am finishing my MA in Ancient and Classical History
from American Public University and I have thousands of hours in research on various historical periods and events. My primary specialty is Sumerology and Akkadian ethnography and will be completing my degree with a thesis on Collapse of Ancient Civilizations. My Bachelors is in Pastoral Ministry and Biblical Studies with a heavy emphasis on interpretational structure analysis and historical settings of the Bible.
At both institutions I was awarded recognition for academic achievement, both in the form of the Kasky-Simmons Theology Award and at American Public University with membership in the Golden Key International Honors Society.
I taught for over a year in South Korea on a variety of subjects, those include History, Science
, and English
. I have spent years researching and participating in historical studies and I have attended an initial meeting of the Dallas Paleontological Society and looking forward to being a full member in a short time. I am familiar with all of the major areas of history required by school districts to pass the major and minor exams. My full-time teaching in Korea I taught English, including grammar
papers, and spelling
. I worked with a variety of students on different levels and different levels of interest. I had some students who were very eager to learn and some who were not and I learned how to work with both sets, often in the same classroom. Also I learned how to work with students who had difficulties such as dyslexia
and other learning challenges, this despite the fact that they do not recognize such learning difficulties in their culture. The other subjects were added to my roster after a clear demonstration of my knowledge in those areas. This is a real accomplishment for a teacher in Korea. All of the schools reserve these areas (History, Science, Geography, TOFEL) for the native Korean
teachers. When I came to the school I was able to demonstrate that my knowledge and teaching ability on these subjects was better than the native teacher that they had placed in that position.
My teaching style is a combination of different methodologies based on the needs of the person whom I am teaching. No one style will fit all persons but the main methods that I use are discussion, (Q&A), and hands-on. I do like to use visuals such as pictures, slides, and other presentation methods when appropriate or available but mostly I will have an open book and speak from that. I do pictures to make the history and or subject more interactive and mentally stimulating as well as memorable. I believe that the more a student is active in the classroom using their five senses the more that they will process and retain. I even like to put a dash or more of humor into each presentation to make the student feel at ease and let them know it is fun.
