I am a recent graduate from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. I received my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in 2010. I now have a total of 8 years of tutoring experience. Growing up, I always looked forward to visits from my grandfather, an engineer who had a love for math. Along with these visits came a round of math quizzes and, little did I know, a very important lesson that I would carry with me in later years.
After handing me a quiz, the only instruction my grandfather ever gave me was to think about the problem. He told me it was not about the formula or equation I had memorized but about how I applied what I knew to the problem at hand. It was then that I learned the importance of critical thinking. In recent years the roles have been reversed, and I am the one giving out rounds of math quizzes to the students I have tutored. I am constantly reminded of my grandfather’s words of wisdom when I have to use critical thinking to understand the most effective teaching methods for a particular student. I have become proficient in learning these effective teaching methods for students of a wide age range. I have experience tutoring elementary, high school and college level math. I also scored well on both the SAT and ACT and would be comfortable tutoring for preparation with either test. Letters of recommendations are available upon request.
