I am from the Knoxville area, but I moved away for twenty years when I married my husband, who was an officer in the Marine Corps. I have had the opportunity to live overseas as well as in many states across the country over the past twenty years. During that time, I taught high school English and worked as a columnist for local newspapers. My husband and I moved back to Knoxville with our two sons two years ago. I currently write an occasional column for the local newspaper in Knoxville, and I am working on a novel.
I enjoy teaching English, and I am interested in tutoring because I love the idea of helping students become proficient in skills they will need and use the rest of their lives. I earned a 3.87 GPA in college, and I have several years' experience as a teacher and a writer. I have excellent proofreading and grammar skills, and I have edited books, fliers, and pamphlets for churches and schools. As a tutor, I will work hard to ensure my students learn necessary skills by first helping them develop an understanding about the importance of proper English skills in all facets of their lives and then providing them with the tools necessary to succeed.
