Language Tutor--Spanish, French, ESL/ESOL

Greetings!

I taught languages for 24 years. My primary focus was Spanish. I also taught French. I worked with ESL/ESOL students as well. I taught K-12, college, home-bound, and adult education. I taught in the classroom as well as online.

What I enjoy most about teaching languages is seeing someone start to grasp the language and be able to use it. I have used children's books to help the learner grasp the vocabulary in context for several levels of learners. They are also good for reading comprehension practice.

I start by seeing what a student knows and where he/she needs or wants to go with the learning process. Sometimes that is guided by desire. Sometimes that is guided by an upcoming test.

I work with the student's learning style preference as well as bringing in the other learning styles. (If the student isn't aware of his/her learning style, then that is one of the first things we'll look into.)

I want a language learner to come away from the experience with a positive outlook on the language, realizing that language learning is fun.

Spanish

I have a Master's Degree in Spanish and taught primarily at the college/university level for near 24 years. I have traveled extensively to Costa Rica (around 13 times) and have been to Mexico and Spain. My pronunciation is more Latin American than Spaniard.

I have taken several graduate courses in ESL training. I studied phonetics and ESL some at SUNY while working on my Master's degree in Spanish. While on Long Island, I worked one summer for a program teaching English to French students. I helped write the curriculum to go along with the books we had.
