My approach to teaching/tutoring Math was always very successful because it is focused on first understanding what the particular student's knowledge barriers are, and then removing them one by one with simple, straight forward, logical explanations and correlations that make the light bulb go on. This way the concepts are not simply memorized, but logically understood and hence easily retrievable when needed. The fact that I am certified to tutor a broad range of Math subjects (prealgebra, algebra 1, algebra 2, geometry, trigonometry, precalculus, and calculus) makes a difference in helping the students achieve their full potential.
I have college level teaching experience in both Electronics and Math. While a PhD candidate and Teaching Assistant at the University of Colorado (1992-95), I was also a tutor with the University Learning Center for all-level Math and Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) classes. By word of mouth I had so many student requests for tutoring that I had to stop taking new students, in order to be able to stick with my plan to graduate with a PhD in 3 years. After being for 14 years with a top Silicon Valley company, I recently moved to the MS/TN area, where I am now working in the R&D Dept. for the world's top lighting company, and also hoping to make a difference by helping young students to better understand, and thus enjoy, Math/EE concepts. I am looking forward to working with you too!
