I earned my graduate degree in special education from the University of South Carolina, and I am certified to teach in TN, K-12. I worked in the Tennessee public school system for 13 years (Williamson County and Sumner County). Currently, I am working part time so as to pursue other interests and spend more time with my family.
During my tenure with the public school system, I worked extensively with special education students with differing needs. This included those with learning disabilities, attention-deficit disorders, speech/language impairments, and those lacking organization skills. I worked in self-contained settings and, more recently and extensively, in inclusion and mainstream environments. In the inclusion classrooms, I taught in conjunction with the regular education teachers to maximize the performance of students and helping them to meet the challenges of the general academic curriculum.
With my students, I work from the perspective of their individual differences, strengths, and learning styles. I help them develop strategies and organizational skills that help them cope with the various demands of their school life.
I would like to tutor middle and elementary school age children. My strengths are middle school math and language arts. Writing and grammar skills are also my fortes.
On a personal level, I am a very widely-traveled and well read person. Traveling, reading, and playing tennis are some of my favorite past-times.
I hope to be able to help you with your endeavors to help your child become successful in school.
