Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I can provide tutoring for ADD, ADHD, or special needs children. My brother's son has Autism and all of my children have ADD or ADHD. I have received training on communicating and teaching children with ADD, ADHD and special needs from the Division of Youth and Family Services. I have experience tutoring and training children with ADD/ADHD, and other special needs children. I have the awareness, training, patience, understanding, sensitivity, and caring necessary to motivate, support, tutor and communicate with special needs children. Not to make light of ADD, ADHD or other special needs, however any and all students that need tutoring have unique and special needs for their tutoring requests, and my approach is to listen and customize my approach based on their feedback and feedback from their parents if provided. Also, because I tutor for Spanish, I understand the needs for effective communication and tutoring children with special needs is similar to speaking a different language. My brother is a Pediatrician and has taught me a great deal regarding the needs of children with ADD, ADHD and autism. Through personal experience and training, I have learned to tutor children with ADD, ADHD.

Interpersonal Skills: I am detail-oriented, creative, energetic, inspiring, organized, observant, sensitive, communicative, teachable, flexible, knowledgeable, diligent, experienced, and confident.

Passion for Teaching and Education: I come from a long family line of educators, teachers, school principals, school superintendents. Teaching, coaching, learning, and improving are my passion and family values. I have a strong passion and desire to help students learn, solve problems and achieve success in their education and in their life goals. I thoroughly enjoy helping my students learn their material, solve problems, and improve their knowledge and skills. I also help my students improve their study skills, problem solving skills, and test taking skills. On a professional basis, I constantly assess systems for training effectiveness, and constantly study to obtain and maintain professional certifications, complete training course and certification exams, and to complete training courses required for my profession. Therefore, I am in the positions of a trainer, tutor and a student on an annual basis. I help students recognize, analyze, and solve any barriers to learning or academic success. My goal is to help my students achieve success, confidence, and satisfaction, and to apply this success to achieve any goal in school or life. Finally, I also help my students set and achieve SMART Goals: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-Based.

What is the age of your child and what are the subjects that you would like support on? You can respond to let me know the support you want, or if there are any questions that you have. Have a great day and I hope to hear from you.

God bless you and your family.
Best regards,
John

If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
