Hi! My name is Mike. I am primarily an English, Language Arts and Writing Tutor, but am very versatile.
My two passions in life are teaching and children.
Throughout junior high and high school, I conducted a summer school program for over 30 students. This program was started to give students a fun, hands-on opportunity to enhance their academic ability during the summer months. Students were required to choose two core subjects: Reading, English, or Math and then were able to choose between several "fun" subjects including: Scrapbooking, Arts and Crafts, Fun in the Kitchen, Science, and Outdoor Sports (to name a few). I taught all the subjects myself with the help of a few volunteer adults. Conducting this Summer Fun School, as it was named, is to this day, one of my greatest and most memorable achievements. I absolutely loved being able to combine the aspects of school-room teaching with a fun, out-of-the-box atmosphere. I took that philosophy and continued it throughout the school year where I tutored seven elementary-aged students in Language Arts, English, Math and a variety of other subjects for several years.
I graduated valedictorian in my class and moved to Dubuque Iowa to attend college and play men's volleyball. Throughout my time in college, I was a tutor in the Writing Center and assisted students with brainstorming, writing, editing, and proofreading papers.
My tutoring philosophy is to help students realize the fun in learning. When things start to click and make sense, students are more eager to learn and therefore, more apt to succeed. I take my job seriously and promise to put it everything I've got to help students achieve all they can achieve.
